Student Posters

Students are encouraged to submit an abstract for the Student Poster competition.  Additional information will be posted to this page as it is confirmed.

Presentation of a paper in a poster session provides an opportunity for effective one-to-one communication, as well as increased visual display of your material.

All poster abstracts must be submitted through the online system.

  • Posters are displayed on standing poster panels that are 4′ high x 6′ wide.  The panel is fabric material that utilizes pushpins.
  • Posters should be no larger than 4’h x 3’w.  Two posters will be displayed on both sides of the poster panel
  • All materials should be prepared in advance.  Proper illustration is critical to an effective presentation. The use of large lettering (legible at a distance of 6′ or more) and minimal text is recommended.
  • Illustrations should not be mounted on heavy stock as this makes it difficult to mount them on poster boards.
  • Use of colored ink in printing and colored paper in framing text can be attractive and enhance the paper.
  • Presentation information should follow a logical sequence and include a formal title.

Time will be allowed for each presentation to be mounted on a poster board before the start of each session. The pushpins will be supplied. Please return the pushpins in the containers provided after your poster presentation for the use of other presenters.

Timely collection of materials at the end of the session is the responsibility of the presenter.  Any remaining posters left on boards will be removed and disposed.

There will be no tables in front of the boards.

Scoring of student posters will be conducted by at least three judges who are members of the AFS Society.  Posters will be judged in four areas:

(1)   The clarity and the support of the stated research OBJECTIVE;

(2)   The overall ORGANIZATION of the poster;

(3)   The clarity and thoroughness of the poster oral PRESENTATION;

(4)   The overall ORIGINALITY of the poster topic.
